Cupcake Counting Cards

11.25.2014

For the Poppins Book Nook November theme, To the Kitchen, we chose to read a book that is well-loved around our house...
"If You Give a Cat a Cupcake" by Laura Numeroff.

Actually, we enjoy all of her "If You Give" books!  Are you a fan, too?  Practice counting, 1:1 correspondence, number recognition, and more early math skills with your preschooler with these cute cupcake counting cards!

A cupcake leads to sprinkles (of course!) which leads to cleaning... the beach... the gym... the lake... the science museum... back to the beach... and a race home where the sand reminds him of sprinkles, which of course calls for a cupcake!

Phew... a full day for one little cupcake!

For a go along activity for our book, I made a Counting Sprinkles Busy Bag for my daughter.

Supplies:

  • sprinkles
  • muffin cup

I printed and laminated my cupcake cards and provided Little Sis with a muffin cup of sprinkles.

We counted to 10 and used the cupcake cards to count out sprinkles.

Would you like to use this free printable with your child?

I've made our Counting Sprinkles Cupcake Cards available to you, too!

In case you have no sprinkles, sequins, small buttons, paper punched dots, and/or pony beads all make great alternatives to using sprinkles for this activity.
