If You Give a Cat a Cupcake Activities

4 fun preschool activities based on the book, If You Give A Cat A Cupcake!  This was a great book to to read to my preschooler for our Letter C themed week; C is for Cat and Cupcake!

Are you familiar with Laura Numeroff books?  We have several of her "If You Give...." children's books.  One of our favorites lately has been, If You Give a Cat a Cupcake.

The book inspired me to create a week of preschool activities with a cat or cupcake theme.  My preschooler loved our math, literacy, and sensory activities based on this book.

Math:

Little Sis used these printable cupcake cards to count out sprinkles to practice 1:1 correspondence, number recognition, and counting to 10.  Small buttons or pom poms would work, too!

Or laminate the counting cards and have your child use a dry eraser marker to draw sprinkles on each cupcake!

Literacy:

Letter C is for Cat from Miss Maren's Monkeys

Little Sis created a Letter C alphabet craft.  Crafting a letter of the alphabet is such a fun, hands-on way to teach the letters of the alphabet.

Supplies:

While Little Sis was busy painting her letter C craft, I told her what sound it makes and stressed several other words that begin with the /c/ sound.

After the paint dried, I cut out the pieces to the Letter C and we assembled it into a cat.

We've been enjoying making a craft for each letter of the alphabet!  Here's a few others we have done so far:

Sensory:

Kinetic Sand Cupcakes

I set up a little bake shop on our school room floor complete with kinetic sand, ice cream scoop, muffin tins, and a few odds and ends for "sprinkles"!

Just for Fun:

Puffy Paint Cupcake Art  from Teach Preschool:

To add a little expressive language into our activity, I asked Little Sis to describe her cupcake.  She said it was, "so soft."

As I mentioned in the beginning, we just love the "If You Give... series...." by Laura Numeroff!   There hasn't been one the kiddos have not enjoyed me reading.
