Look forward to the new year with this acrostic style poem!.  Kudos to me f(HA!) for creating a way to sneak in a little lesson on poetry as we reflect on the past year and focus on the year ahead.  As you begin to reflect on the past year, here's a fun New Years Printable for Kids to use with your older children or make it a family project and get all the kiddos involved!

An acrostic poem is where the first letter in each line spells out a word or phrase.  In this case our acrostic poem is spelling out New Year.

The New Year is all about moving forward to what lies ahead.  So with this printable in hand, begin to Brainstorm!

  • Think about what you will be doing this year.... Any vacations to look forward to?  New school? New sport?
  • what you want to do.... want to try or learn....  Interested in taking piano lessons or learning a new skill?
  • things/ events that will happen this year...
Once you have brainstormed, it may take a little creativity to re-word so that each goal begins with the letter spelling "New Year."

Remember that there is no right or wrong way to write an acrostic poem and it doesn't need to make a complete sentence.  Think of it as writing down phrases, with the over-arching theme of things to look forward to in the new year.

Just have fun thinking about the upcoming year and what you would like to happen.
