We shared our Favorite Dinosaur Books a while back, but taking part of the Virtual Book Club for Kids introduced us to another-- Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems.
The storyline is a playful attempt of the original Goldilocks, but with dinosaurs of course!
For a go-along activity for Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs {or any dinosaur book}, I put together a clothespin dinosaur counting activity for my very soon to be 4 year old!
Preschool Hands-on Math Activity
Supply List:
- Dinosaur Printable
- mini clothespins
- laminator
- scissors
An adult will first need to prep this activity by printing out the dinosaur printable and laminating each page.
Cut out each dinosaur and present them with a supply of mini clothespins.
We love activities involving clothespins because they are a great manipulative to work on fine motor skills!
Your child will not only be grasping and pinching, but honing those counting skills as well!
This dinosaur themed counting tray is super easy, simply have your child grab a dinosaur, say the number, and clip that many clothespins onto the dinosaurs back.
You could use other manipulatives as well, like:
Whatever suits your fancy, go ahead and use those with this colorful dinosaur counting activity!
Alternatively, you could use this for number recognition and have child clip a clothespin with a number on it to the correct dinosaur. Or practice number order by putting the dinosaurs in order.
After all the tedious work of cutting out each dinosaur, I am sure you'll find plenty of other ways to keep these dinosaurs on your learning shelf for quite a while!
