This Very Hungry Caterpillar storybook inspired sequencing activity is a fun and creative way to teach young children how to order events and re-tell a story! Teach sequencing skills with this most loved children's storybook with your preschool- 2nd grade students.

Our latest Bookspiration theme was insects, so we chose to make an activity to go along with one of the most popular insects we know-- The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
I'm sure you have read it at least once! It is a lovely story following the transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly, who loves to eat! The way it is written makes it a wonderful children's book to use while working on story sequencing with your preschool or kindergarten aged kiddo.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Sequencing
Your child will have fun re-telling this classic children's book with our Very Hungry Caterpillar Story Stick.
To prep the activity, you'll need:
- Paint Stick
- Clothespins
- Green Paint
- Paintbrush
- Story Sequence Free Printable
- Scissors
- Glue
How to Make Your Very Hungry Caterpillar Sequencing Stick
Begin prepping your caterpillar story stick by painting a paint stir stick green.
Print and laminate
Cut out each circle and the caterpillar head.
While the caterpillar story stick is drying, glue each laminated circle to a clothespin.
Once the paint has dried fully, glue the caterpillar head onto the story stick.
Now it looks like a very thin {and long} caterpillar!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Sequencing Activity In Action
Read The Very Hungry Caterpillar
After reading have your child re-tell the story by clipping on the story sequence circles onto the caterpillar body.
This is such a wonderful way to work on fine motor skills, too!
Alternatively, you could have your child clip the story circles on as you read.
Enjoy this fun, hands-on The Very Hungry Caterpillar Sequencing Activity!
